Pets keen to meet their fur-ever families

Townsville City Council is urging dog and cat lovers to head to the Animal Shelter to find their purr-fect companion this weekend.

All the animals at the Shelter will be half-price and pet lovers will have more opp-paw-tunities to find a new friend at the Shelter's open day on Sunday.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the Shelter has plenty of cats and dogs who are looking for their fur-ever families.

"We have a great mix of gorgeous animals and they are ready to bring love and laughter to people across Townsville," Cr Greaney said.

"People will have plenty of options this weekend – we have 26 dogs and puppies available for adoption and 54 cats and kittens."

Cr Greaney said Council has ensured the dogs and cats are ready to start their new lives.

"We are making a great off-fur to pet lovers – all the cats and dogs are half-price and they have been microchipped, desexed and vaccinated.

"They are all ready to befriend Townsville residents but we want to make sure people are responsible pet owners.

"Adopting your paw-fect pet is a long-term decision and people need to make sure their property is pet-friendly."

The Animal Shelter is open from 9:30am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.
