The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct hazard reduction burns in in the Pilliga forest from tomorrow Thursday 25 June, weather permitting.
NPWS will carry out a 200-hectare and 80-hectare burn along the Newell Highway about 10km north of Coonabarabran.
These burns are both within the Pilliga Nature Reserve and aim to reduce fuel loads and minimise the spread of wildfire in the Pilliga forest.
This section of Pilliga Nature Reserve will be closed during burning operations. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and are advised to take care if visibility is reduced by smoke and follow any signs.
