Pilot Killed in Recreational Aircraft Crash Near Parkes

An investigation is underway after a recreational aircraft crashed and its pilot died this afternoon in the state's Central West.

Officers attached to Central West Police District were called to Meadowview Road near Tottenham, about 140km north-west of Parkes, about 3.40pm when the aircraft was found crashed in a paddock.

The 48-year-old pilot, who is a local man, died in the crash. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner, while an investigation into the crash is being conducted by Recreational Aircraft Australia.

Police had been searching the area for the driver of a car – which had reported stolen from a worksite near Narromine about 2pm – when the crash occurred.

Inquiries are continuing into the whereabouts of the driver.
