Pistol located during vehicle stop, NSW

A man has been charged after an unregistered pistol was allegedly located during a vehicle stop at Port Stephens today, NSW Police say.

Just after 2.30am today, police from Port Stephens Local Area Command were patrolling Shoal Bay Road, Shoal Bay, when they stopped the driver of a Mazda station wagon for a random breath test.

The driver returned a negative result and was then subjected to a search.

Officers allegedly located a metal air pistol on the man which was secured for forensic analysis.

A 22-year-old man was arrested and conveyed to Nelson Bay Police Station where he was charged with possession of an unregistered pistol.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 10 July 2017.
