PlanBuild Tasmania Phase One Launch

Elise Archer,Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs

A new online portal to improve the property development approval process and provide a streamlined, easier process for all Tasmanians looking to build has officially launched today.

The PlanBuild Tasmania portal allows anyone to enter an address and see what planning zones and codes apply to their property. A Property Report can be generated which includes maps, details of the planning zone, codes and other information that affect the selected property.

For those properties that fall under the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, PlanBuild Tasmania provides a comprehensive Guided Enquiry service, identifying planning, building and plumbing rules that may apply to a proposed project.

People will be able to work through a series of questions on their proposed project and get information on:

  • who to consult (eg. local council, Heritage Tasmania);
  • who can do the work (eg. a licensed builder); and
  • what to apply for (eg. a permit).

After completing an enquiry, if the person has additional questions or wants advice from a council, a request can be lodged online using PlanBuild Tasmania.

Phase two will be launched later in 2022, which will deliver application lodgement and tracking functionality.

PlanBuild Tasmania is intuitive to use and aims to deliver a consistent, transparent and streamlined application process to all users, including property owners, property developers, industry professionals, the general public and other agencies.

I wish to thank my Department, through Consumer Building and Occupational Services (CBOS), for their work and bringing this exciting project to fruition.

I am very pleased this important milestone in the PlanBuild Tasmania portal development has been reached, and I look forward to it helping Tasmanians to make it easier for them in the planning process.
