Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a number plate and fuel theft which occurred in Ashburton and Ardeer in March, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told a number plate was stolen from a silver Ford Territory which was parked in Chamberlain Street, Ashburton sometime between 9.30-11.30am on Tuesday 28 March.
The plate was allegedly attached to a white Hyundai Getz which was involved in a petrol drive off in Ardeer .
Police have been told that a man drove the car to a service station on The Avenue about 7pm on Friday 31 March.
He filled the car up with petrol and left without paying.
Police have released an image of a man that they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.
