PMHC Hosts 2025 NSW Weeds Conference

Port Macquarie-Hastings

The state's premier event for weed management and research is coming to Port Macquarie for the first time.

More than 250 of the industry's leading minds from across NSW will gather at The Glasshouse from Monday 4 August to Thursday 7 August to showcase the latest research and ideas for managing the establishment, impact and spread of weeds.

PMHC Biosecurity Officer Matt Bell said events like this are crucial to long-term initiatives that protect our region's rich biodiversity.

"Weeds threaten our environment and agricultural systems, especially for a coastal community like ours. We've seen this in recent flood events where weed invasion in flood zones has become a concern."

"Weed management is our shared responsibility and we look forward to collaborating with our colleagues from across the state to share best practices."

Mr Bell will be among the line-up of speakers for the four-day conference, which will cover a range of topics from weed biocontrol and large-scale conservation to weed-specific management techniques and innovative management tools.

Port Macquarie Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts, who will be in attendance to open the program on day 2, also noted the significance of this event.

"Over the coming days, this conference will highlight practical strategies, fresh thinking and the latest approaches in managing invasive species and protecting our natural landscapes."

"These conversations have real-world impact. They influence the way councils, landholders, agencies and researchers work together – and they shape the way we safeguard our environment for the future."
