Police alert issued about email scam, SA

SA Police are warning of a phishing email which is circulating which claims to be an infringement notice but contains malicious URL links, according to SA Police.

In some cases the email claims to come from the ‘City Council’ but does not contain a logo or name of any particular council.

SA Police are aware of similar emails in the past which have also claimed to be from police agencies.

Please note, if you receive an email similar to this example, do not click on any links or attachments and do not reply to the email. Please delete the email.

Phishing is an attempt to commit identity theft by obtaining sensitive, private information - such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details - by disguising the attempt in a manner that appears to be from a trustworthy entity.

Earlier this month the ACCC’s Scam Awareness Week was focused on encouraging people to check that the source of unsolicited material – however it is received – is real before responding.
