Police appeal after attempted robbery in Ballina

Police are investigating after an attempted robbery in that state’s Northern Rivers region, NSW Police say.

Just after 4.30pm on Sunday yesterday, a 93-year-old man was in his garage on Riverside Drive, West Ballina, when he was allegedly approached by three girls claiming to be selling raffle tickets.

Police have been told the three girls, believed to be aged between 14 and 15, attempted to grab the elderly man’s wallet from his trousers, before pushing him into the wall.

The girls fled the scene empty handed.

The elderly man was treated at Ballina Hospital for two fractured ribs, and cuts to his arms and head.

Officers attached to Richmond Local Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident and would like to speak to three girls who might be able to assist police.

The girls are described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 14 and 15 years of age. They were last seen wearing light coloured clothing.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Ballina police via Crime Stoppers.
