Police appeal after boy shot in foot in Mudgee

Police from Mudgee are appealing for information after a boy was shot in the foot last night.

Emergency services were called to an address just after 7.30pm yesterday.

A 14-year-old boy was treated for a gunshot wound to his foot at his home in Denison Street, Mudgee. He was taken to the Mudgee Hospital and later conveyed to Orange Base Hospital by helicopter.

Police were told the boy had been accidentally shot in the foot while hunting rabbits with a friend.

The boy is in Orange Hospital in a stable condition, NSW Police say.

A number of items were seized for further examination from a home in Denison Street, including an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

Police from Mudgee Local Area Command have urged anyone with information to come forward; in particular anyone who heard a gunshot in the vicinity of Denison Street, Mudgee, near the intersection of Headley Place.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
