Police appeal for information following shooting in Auburn

Police are appealing for information following a shooting in Sydney's west overnight.

About 7.40pm (Saturday 5 January 2019), police have been told a 24-year-old man was driving near Hawksview Street, Merrylands, when his vehicle was approached by three men.

One of the men entered the passenger seat of the Toyota Corolla and threatened the driver with a knife, demanding his phone and wallet.

An altercation followed, where the 24-year-old man sustained a laceration to his arm and a gunshot wound to his leg, before the three men fled the scene.

The man drove a short distance before flagging down a passing motorist for assistance, who took him to Auburn Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command, with assistance from Auburn Police Area Command, commenced an investigation.

Police believe this was a targeted attack.

Detectives are continuing their inquiries and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact Crime Stopper immediately on 1800 333 000.
