Police are appealing for information in relation to a break-in at a resort in Benowa where a sentimental piece of jewellery was stolen from an elderly woman. , Queensland Police say
On July 31, 2017 a burglary occurred at the 85-year-old woman’s unit at the Ross Street resort where a quantity of personal belongings was stolen.
Included in these stolen items was a gold medallion that the victim’s father had won in his last sprinting race prior to him enlisting in the 2nd light horse battalion in 1915 and fighting in the first world war.
The elderly victim herself went on to become a champion sprinter, and since her father’s death in 1978 she has worn the medallion daily for good luck.
Engraved on the front of the medallion are the letters "AGW" and on the back are the words "Starters H’cap A G Welch 1914".
The medallion holds extreme sentimental value to the elderly woman and police are appealing for its return.
Anyone who has any information to offer police about the medallion is asked to contact Burleigh Heads CIB on 55 038 916 or Crime Stoppers.
