Police appeal to locate woman missing from Shellharbour

A geo-targeted SMS will be sent to the Shellharbour area – if you receive an SMS from +61 444 444 444 this is not a scam. Police are particularly asking people living in the Shellharbour area to check their backyards, sheds and/or garages in case she is taking shelter there.

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a woman missing from Shellharbour.

Shirley Hanes, aged 74, was last seen on Eastern Avenue, Shellharbour, about 5.45pm today (Monday 7 August 2023).

When she was unable to be located, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were notified later and commenced inquiries into her whereabouts.

Police and family hold concerns for her welfare due to her age and a number of medical conditions, as well as the overnight low temperatures.

Shirley is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 157cm tall, with a thin build,and grey/blonde short straight hair. When she was last seen she was wearing blue jeans, a pink zip-up top, green jumper and a pink beanie.

Mrs Hanes does not have a mobile phone or money, and may appear confused or disoriented.

She is known to frequent the Shellharbour Village, Shell Cove and Warilla CBD.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact Lake Illawarra Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
