Police are investigating a break-in which occurred yesterday at Reynella East, SA

Sometime between 12pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday 8 December, thieves forced the front door of a house and stole an amount of Lantus branded insulin from the refrigerator, according to SA Police.

Diabetes SA advise that Lantus is a slow uptake and long acting Insulin Glargine. This medication will not provide any benefit to non-insulin dependent persons. Should this medication be taken by unprescribed persons the effects may be life threatening and can include long term complications such as brain damage or a hypoglycaemic attack which could result in the person slipping into a coma and/or resulting in death. It is recommended that any person not requiring insulin who may have taken this medication, by any method, to immediately consume fast acting glucose and seek urgent medical attention at the nearest hospital Emergency Department.
