Police are responding to fatal crash, Bowen 23 February

A man has passed away following a crash south of Bowen this morning.

Early investigations indicate at 5.10am a utility was headed north on the Bruce Highway when it collided with a utility headed in the opposite direction near the intersection of Heronvale Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the ute headed north, an 80-year-old Cairns man, died at the scene.

The sole occupant of the second vehicle, a 60-year-old Bowen man, was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital and is believed to be in a serious condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
