Police are responding to fatal crash - state's south

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal single-vehicle crash on the NSW/Victorian border today.

About 5pm (Sunday 13 March 2022), emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, Tocumwal – about 70km south west of Deniliquin – following reports a Toyota Hilux had left the roadway and travelled across a canal before coming to a stop.

The driver and sole occupant of the Hilux was assisted from the vehicle; however, he died at the scene.

Officers from Murray River Police District attended and established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined.

While the man is yet to be formally identified, he is believed to be aged in his 30s.

As inquiries into the incident continue, police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
