Police are responding to serious crash at Bass Highway, Burnie

About 4pm on Tuesday the 26th of February 2019 a crash occurred between a black and red Aprilia motorcycle and a white Toyota Hilux utility at the intersection of Bass Highway and Stowport Road, Wivenhoe.

As a result of the crash, the rider of the motorcycle, a 42 year old Penguin man, has received severe fractures. He is in a serious but stable condition and was taken to the North West Regional Hospital prior to being airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital for further treatment.

Members from Tasmania Police, Tasmania Ambulance and Tasmania Fire were in attendance. The crash caused some congestion for both east and west bound traffic on the Bass Highway for about 1 hour prior to the area being cleared.

Initial investigations indicate the crash may have been caused by inattention and police would like to remind drivers to remain alert to their surroundings and other road users.
