Police arrest four after pursuit through Sydney's south-west

Four people have been arrested and two charged following a police pursuit through Sydney's south-west yesterday.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to Tolmer Street, Bossley Park, about 12.30pm Sunday (22 March 2020), after a Toyota Corolla and a RAV4 – both reported stolen – were seen nearby.

Police attempted to stop the driver of the Corolla on The Horsley Drive, Wetherill Park. When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 140km/h in a signposted 70km/h zone.

The vehicle stopped when it hit the kerb at the intersection of Cowpasture and Restwell roads, Bossley Park, and the four occupants ran into the nearby Western Sydney Parklands area.

POLAIR and a team from the Dog Unit were called to assist and all four were arrested a short time later; two were found in the parkland, the third in Comin Street, Abbotsbury, and the fourth was located by a Police Dog at a bus stop on Stockdale Crescent, Abbotsbury.

All were taken to Fairfield Police Station where the alleged driver, a 15-year-old boy, was charged with three offences:

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly

• Drive conveyance taken without consent, and

• Never-licensed person drive vehicle on road.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court on Monday 4 May 2020.

A 20-year-old Sadlier man has been charged with six offences:

• Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner

• Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier

• Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner

• Dishonestly obtain property by deception (two counts), and

• Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

He's been bail refused to Fairfield Local Court today (Monday 23 March 2020).

Two other boys, aged 14 and 15, who were also in the car, have been dealt with under the Young Offender's Act.

Inquiries are continuing into the whereabouts of the stolen 2018-model grey RAV4, NSW registration EBO63U. Anyone who sees the vehicle is urged not to approach it but to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
