Police arrest man after fleeing vehicle stop and crash site - Rooty Hill

A man is in custody after fleeing the scene of a crash, following a vehicle stop in Sydney's west today.

Just before 9.30am (Wednesday 1 July 2020), Highway Patrol officers stopped a Kia Cerato on Woodstock Avenue, Rooty Hill, after it was allegedly detected speeding.

As police approached the vehicle, it drove off, and a pursuit was initiated.

The Kia travelled north down Hartington Street, before it collided with a Volvo at the intersection of Wolseley Street.

The female driver of the Volvo was treated at the scene for shock, before being taken to Mt Druitt Hosptial for observation.

The driver of the Kia fled the scene, and police established a perimeter to locate the man, with assistance from the Dog Unit and PolAir.

Following inquiries, a 23-year-old Dharruk man was arrested on Napier Street just after 11am, and was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

A crime scene has been established at the intersection of Hartington and Wolseley Street, and local traffic diversions are in place.
