Police arrest man after Moonee Ponds incident

Police have arrested a man after several people were injured in Moonee Ponds this afternoon.

Officers were called to the area, in the vicinity of Puckle Street, after reports to Triple Zero (000) about an agitated man who appeared to have assaulted people on the street about 1.15pm.

Local police and detectives responded swiftly arresting the 36-year-old man, who was armed with a sharp implement, near the railway station.

The four victims, two males and two females ranging in age from 30s to 80s, have been taken to hospital for treatment to what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The man is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

At this stage the incident appears to have been random in nature and not terror related.

Moonee Valley CIU are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam to come forward.
