Police arrest man after police officer punched in face - Lansvale

A man has been arrested after a police officer was punched in the face and knocked unconscious in Sydney's south-west last night.

About 1.10am (Sunday 14 February 2021), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to a home on Huntingdale Avenue near the Hume Highway, Lansvale, after receiving noise complaints.

Upon arrival, police located a man and a woman – both aged 23 – arguing outside the home, before a physical altercation occurred.

Shortly after, the pair stopped and separated.

While officers were speaking to the woman, the man approached a male sergeant and following a confrontation, it's alleged he punched the sergeant in the jaw, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the ground.

The sergeant was unconscious for a brief period, and treated by other officers at the scene, before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.

He was treated for a laceration to the back of the head and facial swelling, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The man was arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station where he is expected to be charged.

The woman is also assisting police with their inquiries.
