Police arrest man after pursuit in Whyalla, South Australia

A man was arrested after a pursuit in Whyalla overnight.

It will be alleged, just before 2am on Thursday 22 August, police attempted to stop a white Subaru Forrester on Winton Street in Whyalla Stuart. The vehicle failed to stop, and police pursued it. The pursuit travelled west out of Whyalla though scrub land, before returning to the highway and back into the township.

The vehicle then entered a caravan park, and upon exiting the park, was spiked causing two tyres to blow. The vehicle continued for a short distance before colliding with a pole. The driver exited the vehicle and ran away, but was located and arrested by police nearby.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Whyalla Norrie was taken to the Whyalla Police Station where he was charged with aggravated driving to escape a police pursuit and driving whilst disqualified. He was refused bail and will appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court today.
