Police Arrest Man After Pursuit - Murray River

A man has been arrested in relation to traffic and property offences, following a pursuit with police in the State's Riverina.

About 8:45pm yesterday (Thursday 22 February 2024), officers attached to Murray River Police District sighted a Black MG - reportedly stolen from the driveway of a West Albury home on Sunday 18 February 2024.

When the MG failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated with the vehicle monitored by PolAir as it crossed the border at Albury Wodonga.

About 9:15pm yesterday (Thursday 22 February 2024), the MG returned to New South Wales and drove across a grassed area, alongside the Murray River.

The driver fled from the car and jumped into the Murray River.

About 9.44pm, the 26-year-old man was arrested on the banks of the Murray River in West Albury, approximately 1.7km downstream.

The man was taken to Albury Base Hospital for assessment before being transferred to Albury Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.
