Police arrest man and woman for drug trafficking, South Australia

Two people have been arrested for allegedly trafficking a controlled drug into a prison.

Detectives from the Public Protection Branch and Police Corrections attended a property at Gilles Plains on Thursday 16 April after receiving information about drug dealing in a prison.

Police arrested a 25-year-old woman and charged her with trafficking in a controlled drug and dishonest dealings with documents.

On Thursday 23 April, detectives attended a prison and arrested a 26-year-old incarcerated man and charged him with trafficking a controlled drug and dishonest dealings with documents.

The pair will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 24 June.

Detective Superintendent Mark Wieszyk in charge of Public Prosecution Branch says, "South Australia Police and the Department for Correctional Services continue to work collaboratively to stop contraband being introduced into prisons and to identify prisoners and their associates in the community who are involved in this illegal activity. These offenders run a strong chance of being caught if they choose to take the risk. SAPOL will support DCS to quell the supply of drugs into prisons and ask anyone with information about the trafficking and supply of drugs or contraband into prison to contact Crime Stoppers."

David Brown, Chief Executive, Department for Correctional Services added, "This is an important partnership between the Department for Correctional Services and SAPOL. DCS is committed to continuing to jump on attempts to introduce contraband to our prisons."
