Detectives from the Frankston Crime Investigation Unit have arrested two people following a six-month investigation into the alleged manufacturing and sale of cloned Victorian number plates.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on Sargood Street, Hampton earlier this morning.
Police also executed a search warrant at a business premises on Beach Avenue, Mordialloc where they arrested a 37-year-old woman.
Police continue to search the premises where they expect to seize a number of items.
As stated by Detective Sergeant Nick Lamb:
"Police know that number plate theft and cloning is often at the centre of more serious offending."
"It's believed the cloned number plates being produced as part of this investigation can be linked to other crimes that have occurred in Melbourne's south east such as burglaries, stolen vehicles and handling stolen goods.
"Police take this type of offending very seriously and we are committed to identifying and holding offenders to account."
