Police arrest two in Bakers Creek

Detectives the from Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch, working with first response officers and the Dog Squad, yesterday located and arrested two men in bushland in the Bakers Creek area, Queensland Police say.

Police were searching for the men following a series of offences including the alleged attempted armed robbery of a Kay Court, Mount Pleasant fast food restaurant around 8pm on June 21 and the alleged attempted break and enter of a Padget gun shop overnight on Friday.

Acting on information, police conducted a systemic search of the bushland at Bakers Creek, during which they located the two men and two allegedly stolen quad bikes around 2.40pm.

Subsequent investigations have led to both men being charged with number of offences.

A 31-year-old Mackay man has been charged with 28 offences including attempted armed robbery, stealing, enter premises with intent, disqualified driving, possession of tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug utensils.

A 27-year-old Blacks Beach man has been charged with eight offences including enter premises with intent, disqualified driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, fail to stop for police and obstruct police.

Both men are due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Mackay District Inspector Brendan Smith said yesterday’s effort shows the commitment the Queensland Police Service has for bringing offenders before the court.

"The ability to bring in a variety of resources including the dog squad is now common place," Inspector Smith said.

"Offenders need to understand that this type of action will be taken whenever necessary.

"The community expect us to do this and accordingly, we will be unrelenting in our efforts."
