Police Arrest Two Men After Firearm Found At Smithfield

Two men are facing serious weapons charges after police seized several firearms today.

Police were called to Charlotte Street, Smithfield about 2.30am on Tuesday 31 March by reports of two suspicious men with weapons in the street.

Police responded quickly and located the two suspects, along with a shotgun in the rear tray of a ute.

Following searches of several addresses associated with the men, police allegedly located and seized three additional firearms, including a homemade 'slam' gun, a folding single shot .22 handgun and a long arm .22 rifle.

A 39-year-old Angle Vale man and a 33-year-old Blair Athol man were arrested and charged with possess firearm without a licence and weapons offences.

They were refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 1 April.

Investigations are ongoing.
