Police arrest youth over phone store theft in Sydney CBD

A 15-year-old youth has been arrested by police in relation to the snatch and run theft of a mobile phone from a telco store in the Sydney CBD.

Officers from the Sydney City Police Area Command recently established Strike Force Loroy to investigate a series of organised thefts targeting mobile phones and other electronic goods from telco stores and retail outlets.

In one of the incidents, at 3pm on Wednesday 1 May 2019, it's alleged a group of youths entered a mobile phone retail store in George Street in the CBD, requested to inspect a mobile from the display and then snatched it from a shop assistant before fleeing.

Police allege they caught a youth trying to flee out a rear window.

The 15-year-old was arrested and taken to the Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with steal from person and steal from dwelling.

He was refused bail and ordered to appear before Parramatta Children's Court today.
