Police charge 169 people with drug-related offences at Field Day 2020

NSW Police have charged nearly 170 people with drug-related offences at yesterday's music festival in Sydney's Domain.

A high-visibility police operation, led by Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (RES), and including officers from across the Central Metropolitan Region, the Dog Unit, Licensing Police, and Police Transport Command, was in place yesterday (Wednesday 1 January 2020) for the duration of the event.

An estimated 27,000 people attended the festival with 169 arrested during the operation and charged with drug-related offences – 167 of them for possession, and two for supply.

This included a 19-year-old man who was charged after officers allegedly located more 3.4g of MDMA in his underwear. He was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for possess prohibited drug and is due to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 11 March 2020.

Police also issued 10 Criminal Infringement Notices for offences including failing to quit licensed premises and offensive behaviour.

Officers ejected 35 people from the premises for intoxication, 36 people were issued move-on directions and one Youth Caution was issued.
