Police charge driver after crashing into house after pursuit - South Coast

A man has faced court charged with traffic offences following a pursuit with police on the state's South Coast at the weekend.

Just after 9pm on Saturday (21 August 2021), officers attached to South Coast Proactive Crime Team were patrolling the Callala Bay and Callala Beach areas.

While at the intersection of Callala Beach Road and Emmett Street, officers observed a Ford Falcon allegedly conduct a burnout.

Police attempted to stop the Ford; however, the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns before the Ford lost control and crashed into a home on Callala Beach Road.

The 22-year-old driver and a 34-year-old passenger were arrested at the scene.

The driver underwent a roadside drug test, which will undergo further analysis.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, exceed speed over 45km/h, prolong, sustain loss of traction (burnout), and fail to comply requirement public health order - COVID-19.

The Callala Bay man appeared at Wollongong Local Court yesterday (Sunday 22 August 2021) and was granted conditional bail to reappear in Nowra Local Court on Monday 30 August 2021.

The passenger was issued an infringement for fail to comply with noticed direction re s7/8/9 – COVID-19 and released from custody.
