Police Charge Driver After Fatal Crash At Parkes

Police have charged a driver following a fatal crash in the state's far west earlier this year.

About 2pm on Wednesday 7 January 2026, emergency services responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a sedan and a SUV at the intersection of the Newell Highway and Forbes Road, Parkes.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the alleged driver of the sedan, an 87-year-old man, and his passenger, a 73-year-old woman, at the scene for serious injuries.

The man was taken to Orange Base Hospital, and the woman was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital, where she was later transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital.

The driver of the SUV, a 70-year-old woman, was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

Three passengers in the SUV were uninjured.

A crime scene was established by officers attached to the Central West Police District which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit who commenced inquiries into the incident.

Police were later informed that the 73-year-old woman died in hospital on Saturday 24 January 2026.

Following inquiries, police charged the 87-year-old alleged driver today (Friday 10 April 2026), with dangerous driving occ death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death, cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, negligent driving no death or grievous bodily harm, and not keep left of dividing line.

The man was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Parkes Local Court on Thursday 4 June 2026.
