A driver will face court tomorrow charged after a pursuit and crash in Sydney's north yesterday.
About 4.15pm (Saturday 4 April 2026), police were patrolling the North Manly area, when they attempted to stop a Subaru SUV travelling on Pittwater Road, following reports it was displaying stolen number plates.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed, a pursuit was initiated by officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command.
The pursuit continued along Warringah Road, Wakehurst Parkway, and Pittwater Road, Mona Vale, before it was terminated at Mona Vale due to safety concerns.
The SUV continued onto Mona Vale Road, where it was involved in a crash with an unmarked police car near the intersection of Richmond Avenue, St Ives. It then hit a tree.
The occupants, a man and woman both aged 33, were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in stable conditions.
On his release from hospital earlier today (Sunday 5 April 2026), the man was taken to Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with four offences,
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Licence expired more than two years ago, and
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen not motor vehicle.
The 33-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 7 tomorrow (Monday 6 April 2026).
