Police charge driver over fatal Pagewood crash

A driver has been charged over a fatal crash at Pagewood two weeks ago.

Officers attached to the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) had been investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash between a sedan and an SUV about 10.15pm on Saturday 2 December 2023, on Wentworth Avenue, Pagewood.

Emergency services attended and found the 24-year-old man travelling in the sedan's front-seat passenger had died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a man also aged 24, was seriously injured, as was the driver of the sedan, a 31-year-old man.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the two drivers before taking them to hospital.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene, with CIU taking over the investigation.

Following inquiries, the driver of the sedan was arrested when he attended Maroubra Police Station yesterday (Saturday 23 December 2023).

He has now been charged with four offences,

Dangerous driving occasioning death

Dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm

Negligent driving occasioning death, and

Negligent driving occasion grievous bodily harm.

The man, from Waterloo, has been granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 1 February 2024.

His licence has been suspended.
