Four people will face court today charged following a pursuit with police in an alleged stolen vehicle in The Hume PD yesterday.
About 3pm (Thursday 20 May 2021), police received information that a Toyota Hilux, allegedly stolen from the ACT, was driving on Wee Jasper Road, Tumut, towards Yass.
Police have been told a witness disturbed the occupants of the Toyota allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle from a rural property near Tumut before fleeing.
Officers attached to The Hume Police District responded and attempted to stop the Toyota on Wee Jasper Road, just after 3.30pm.
A pursuit was initiated after the Toyota failed to stop, and two sets of road spikes were successfully deployed, causing the utility to become un-driveable.
As the Toyota came to a stop, four occupants fled into a nearby property on Gums Lane, Yass and were arrested after a short foot pursuit.
The driver, a 23-year-old man and three teenage passengers, aged 18, 16 and 15, were taken to Yass Police Station, where they were all charged with aggravated break, enter and steal – in company, and trespass.
The driver was also charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, not comply with direction to stop/move, and drive while licence cancelled. An outstanding warrant was also executed.
The 18-year-old was also charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
They both appeared at Goulburn Local Court today (Friday 21 May 2021), where the man was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday (26 May 2021).
The two teens, aged 15 and 16, were also charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, with the younger boy additionally charged with possess prohibited drug and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.
They appeared at a children's court today (Friday 21 May 2021), and were formally refused bail to re-appear on Monday 24 May 2021.
