Police charge man after armed robbery at Tamworth

A man has been charged over two alleged armed robberies in the state's north west.

About 7am yesterday (Sunday 26 March 2023), officers from Oxley Police District police were called to a convenience store on Scott Road, Tamworth, following reports of an armed robbery.

Police will allege in court that the man, armed with a knife, threatened two female staff members before stealing cash.

It will be further alleged that, about 5.45am, he threatened a 34-year-old man with the knife on Goonoo Road, Tamworth.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 26-year-old man at a home in Cossa Road, West Tamworth, about 10.50am yesterday.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Monday 27 March 2023).
