Logan Detectives have charged a man after an alleged armed robbery at a Loganlea business on July 2.
It will be alleged that around 9.30am, a man entered a tobacco shop on Logan Road armed with a hatchet, threatened a female employee, and smashed glass display cabinets before stealing two replica firearm and leaving the scene on foot.
CCTV footage of the incident was reviewed, and a subsequent investigation led officers to a nearby address on Fermont Road where a man was taken into custody and the replica firearms were recovered.
A 34-year-old Loganlea man was charged with one count each of armed robbery, possessing dangerous drugs, receiving tainted property, and authority required to possess explosives.
He is expected to reappear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 27.
Detective Acting Inspector Adam Bennett praised the swift response and investigative work of the attending officers.
"This was a brazen and volatile offence committed in broad daylight, and thanks to the swift actions of our general duties crews, we were able to quickly identify and locate the alleged offender," Detective Acting Inspector Bennett said.
"No one should be subjected to such threats and violence when at work, and we remain committed to holding offenders accountable to ensure the safety of both workers and the broader community."
"This also highlights the importance of CCTV and other security systems in assisting police and enhancing community safety. We urge businesses to review their security measures and report suspicious activity to police."
