Police Charge Man After Carjacking At Port Macquarie

A man has been charged following an alleged armed carjacking in the state's north.

About 4.20pm on Friday (9 January 2026), police were called to Garden Crescent, Port Macquarie, following reports of a carjacking.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District attended and were told a 25-year-old woman occupying the driver seat of a sedan was approached by an unknown man, before he allegedly opened her car door, threatened her with a knife and left the scene in the stolen car.

The woman exited the vehicle without injury and ran from the scene.

Following inquiries, about 6.25am Saturday (10 January 2026), police located the unoccupied stolen sedan on Hollingworth Street, Port Macquarie.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

About 1am yesterday (Sunday 11 January 2026), officers conducting proactive patrols in Port Macquarie stopped and spoke to a 34-year-old man, before he was searched, with police allegedly locating keys to the stolen car and clothes linked to the offence.

The man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and dispose motor vehicle part-theft serious indictable offence greater than $5000.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 yesterday, where he was formally refused to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday 19 February 2026.
