Police charge man after counterfeit notes seized at Tamworth

A man has been charged after counterfeit notes were seized in Tamworth today.

Police were called to a supermarket on Robert Street shortly before 10am (Monday 7 June 2021), after it was reported a man had attempted to use a counterfeit $50 note.

Officers from Oxley Police District attended and arrested a 56-year-old man nearby.

Police seized $850 in counterfeit notes when the man was searched.

The man was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with utter counterfeit money knowing it to be counterfeit, and possess counterfeit money.

He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 8 June 2021).

Police are urging local businesses to check all $50 notes received within the past couple of days.

Anyone who believes they have detected counterfeit notes is urged to contact police.
