Police charge man after Cranebrook house fire

A man has been charged following a house fire at Cranebrook overnight.

About 12.30am (Saturday 28 August 2021), emergency services were called to a home on Offerton Way at Cranebrook, following reports of a house fire.

The occupants – two men, aged 19 – were not injured during the incident. One of the men attempted to put the fire out, before the second fled the scene.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze a short time later.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 19-year-old man at a nearby home a short time later.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station before being transferred to Blacktown Hospital for assessment.

About 11am, the man was returned to Penrith Police Station and charged with damage property by fire/explosion (DV).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Penrith Local Court on Tuesday 7 September 2021.
