Police charge man after elderly woman assaulted - Haymarket

A man will face court today after allegedly assaulting an elderly woman in Sydney's CBD yesterday.

About 6.45pm (Friday 27 March 2020), a 94-year-old woman was walking - with the aid of a walking frame - along Eddy Avenue, Haymarket, towards Central Railway Station, when she was approached by a man.

The man grabbed her walking frame before allegedly pushing the woman to the ground.

A 48-year-old man who witnessed the alleged attack tackled the man to the ground and detained him until police arrived.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and arrested the 54-year-old man.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the woman before she was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where scans revealed a fracture to her left leg. She will undergo surgery today.

The man was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.

He was bail refused to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 28 March 2020).
