Police charge man after fatal crash near Tamworth

A man has been charged following investigations into a crash that killed a woman near Tamworth last month.

About 7.25am on Thursday 28 February 2019, emergency services were called to the New England Highway, 15km north of Bendemeer, after reports of a crash.

A Suzuki sedan driven by a 44-year-old woman travelling north, and a Volkswagen SUV driven by a 61-year-old man travelling south, collided in the north-bound lane.

The woman was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

The man was trapped in his vehicle, before being extricated with injuries to his legs and pelvis.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit conducted an investigation resulting in the man charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving.

He is due to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 20 May 2019.
