A man will appear in court today charged after a fatal trailbike crash in Sydney's south last week.
Just after 4am on Friday 29 January 2021, emergency services were called to Martin Place near The Strand, Mortdale, after reports of a trailbike crash.
Officers from St George Police Area Command attended and found an unregistered trailbike had crashed into a parked Mitsubishi Outlander.
The rider, a 39-year-old man, and pillion passenger, a 27-year-old woman, were ejected from the bike, with the woman suffering serious injuries.
Both were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to St George Hospital, where the woman died on Monday 1 February 2021.
Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Following inquiries, the 39-year-old man was discharged from hospital yesterday (Thursday 4 February 2021), and arrested.
He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), use unregistered motor vehicle on road, unlicensed rider without helmet ride with one passenger without helmet, and not give particulars to police.
The Oatley man has been bail refused to appear before Sutherland Local Court today (Friday 5 February 2021).
