Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Units detectives have charged a man following a series of armed robberies in Footscray earlier today.
It is alleged the man committed armed robberies and attempted armed robberies at three stores on Barkley Street from about 10.30am.
Patrolling officers spotted a man matching the offender's description on Paisley Street shortly after and he was arrested.
A meat clever and stolen cash was allegedly located on his person and seized.
The 31-year-old Norlane man was charged with armed robbery (x2) and attempted armed robbery (x2).
He is due to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
