Police charge man after grandstand destroyed by fire at Orange

A man will appear before court today following investigations into a suspicious fire which partially destroyed a grandstand in the state's Central West.

About 2.15pm on Saturday (30 November 2019), emergency services responded to reports of a grandstand fire at a sportsground in Orange.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, about 40% of the grandstand was destroyed.

Officers attached to Central West Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 23-year-old man at Orange, about 2.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 December 2019).

He was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with destroy property in company cause fire – value more than $5000.

The man was refused bail to appear before Orange Local Court today (Wednesday 4 December 2019).

Investigations continue.
