Police charge man after house fire at Armidale

A man has been charged following a suspicious unit fire in the Northern Tablelands yesterday.

About 10.15am (Wednesday 11 May 2022), emergency services were called to a unit block on Niagara Street, Armidale, following reports a fire inside a unit.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the unit was significantly damaged.

The unit was unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to New England Police District established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist police.

Following ongoing investigations, detectives attended a home on Galloway Street, Armidale, arrested a 38-year-old man yesterday afternoon.

He was taken to Armidale Police Station where he was subsequently charged with damage property by fire/explosion >$15000.

The Armidale man was granted strict conditional bail and will appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 30 May 2022.
