Police Charge Man After House Fire Near Nowra

A man has been charged following a house fire on the state's South Coast last month.

About 5.45am on Monday 9 June 2025, emergency services were called to Coachwood Avenue, Worrigee, about 6km south-east of Nowra, following reports of a house fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW responded and extinguished the fire but the house was destroyed.

A 27-year-old man – who was inside at the time – escaped and was unharmed.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District responded and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, about 10.30am Monday (1 July 2025), officers attached to South Coast Police District attended a home in Sanctuary Point Road, Sanctuary Point, and arrested a 79-year-old man.

He was taken to Bay and Basin Police Station and charged with damage property by fire/explosion (DV), and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Nowra Local Court on Wednesday 9 July 2025.
