Police charge man after investigation into suspicious transactions at casino

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged a man over alleged dealing with proceeds of crime following an investigation into suspicious transactions made at a Sydney casino.

Last month, the Organised Crime Squad's Casino and Racing Investigation Unit (CRIU) commenced an investigation under Strike Force Antree following reports a man had been making suspicious transactions at a Sydney casino.

As part of inquiries, strike force investigators spoke with a 30-year-old man at the casino about 2.30pm on Tuesday 21 July 2020.

During a subsequent search of the man and his vehicle, detectives seized more than $10,000 cash, $50,000 of casino chips, two mobile phones and documentation.

Shortly after, detectives executed a search warrant to seize $50,000 cash from the casino, which is alleged to have been produced by the man for a transaction earlier that day.

Detectives executed a second search warrant at the man's Auburn home, with officers locating and seizing a further $70,000 in cash, a CCTV system and various documents.

The man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of deal with property proceeds of crime.

Police will allege in court that the man purchased chips at the casino with money believed to be the proceeds of crime on at least two occasions.

The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court later today (Wednesday 19 August 2020).

Investigations under Strike Force Antree are continuing.
