Police charge man after Melbourne CBD stabbing

A man has been charged after a stabbing that left another man with serious injuries in Melbourne's CBD last night.

Investigators have been told a man entered a convenience store at the corner of Franklin and Elizabeth streets around 11.30pm.

The shop attendant, 29-year-old Oak Park man, confronted the man after he allegedly attempted to steal an item, and a scuffle broke out between the pair.

The offender allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the shop attendant, who was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police searched the area and located the man, who was arrested at an address on Elizabeth Street around 3.30am.

A 25-year-old Melbourne man has been charged with 12 offences including intentionally cause injury and recklessly cause injury.

He will face the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
