A man has been charged after he allegedly mutilated and killed the family dog in their Auburn unit earlier this year.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday 10 March 2019, police were called to a unit on Edgar Street following reports a naked man – who was allegedly armed with a knife - was attempting to gain access to their unit.
On arrival officers spoke with occupants of the unit who then directed them to another unit in the complex where they found a man matching the description. On approaching the man, he closed the door to his unit and stood in the foyer where he spoke with police.
Officers arrested the man, then entered the home that he shares with his two elderly parents, where they allegedly located a large kitchen knife and a mutilated Shitzu dog.
The dog was rushed to an animal hospital, however, the dog died from its injuries.
The 34-year-old man was taken to Cumberland Hospital for assessment, and was today (Friday 24 May 2019), released from hospital into the custody of police.
He was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with torture, beat and cause death of animal, aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – armed, and destroy or damage property.
He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 25 May 2019).
