Police charge man after prison death

Homicide Squad detectives have today charged a man following the death of a man at Port Phillip Prison in February this year.

A 34-year-old Braybrook man has been charged with murder.

He will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court (online) later today.

The charge follows an incident on 26 February where a 48-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a group of men at the correctional facility.

He died in hospital on 29 February.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
